“I won’t believe her anymore!”

“I won’t believe her anymore!“ These are the words of my thirteen-year old son. He was referring to no other than Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Now, you might wonder what does thirteen-year old has to do with the president? How could she have affected him? Or is my son really aware of what’s happening to our country?

Not that he is really aware or anything, but my son have learned that during her SONA, PGMA mentioned something about reduction of the cost of text messaging. I can’t remember but I think she said that they were able to lower text messaging from 1-peso to 50-centavos. My son was very much aware of this. That is why he was very much glad of this news.

Apparently though, after texting and checking his balance, he found out he was still being deducted 1-peso for every text message he sends. Tried several times to re-check and confirm it. He is convinced, it is still 1-peso and not 50-centavos like PGMA has stated in her SONA for 2008.

To disappoint elders might not be new and somehow, they could cope. After all, they’ve been living with it for quite a while now. But to disappoint a child is another thing. One who just starting to gain knowledge, absorbing everything he sees and hears around him, who is just gaining consciousness of what’s happening around him… a broken promise is really one that is not helpful for his growth.


I am not pro-Gloria nor am I anti-Gloria (altho’ I’m sure her detractors would love to read this blog once they chance about here), but this is an experience of my son, a thirteen-year old lad who was disappointed by a presidential promise.

And why is it posted in Roysville? Because it speaks about delivering a promise… keeping one’s word. A vital factor in one’s success… and also the country’s success.
