Philhealth increased members’ benefits by 35%

Philhealth members would definitely welcome this news: members’ benefits increased by 35%, an increased that covers almost all possible benefits a member can avail of.

The increased members’ benefits will be effective starting April 5, 2009. The good news was reported by Rey Aquino, president and CEO of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

He reported that this increase covers professional fees, room and board, drugs and medicine, x-ray, laboratory, operating rooms, and others, depending on the category of the hospital, such as tertiary, secondary and primary.

With the increase, the agency foresees an additional P7 billion increase in benefits this year, from the approximately P20 billion benefits paid last year.

At present, there are 1,500 hospitas that are accredited in the country, 20,000 accredited health care providers and professionals.

It is reminded therefore, that we should be updated in our contributions to be able to enjoy these benefits from Philhealth.

  2. What I’m afraid of with FilHealth and these types of insurance is that people usually go to the hospital or doctor for the smallest problem. While people have legitimate problems, I fear that this program will be abused and therefore create an impossible debt black hole like we see in the States.

If Filipinos would stop eating so much pork and other animal protein, it would be nearly impossible for them to get sick. The Western diet is already creating an epidemic of obesity as it is…
