Spreading the Word of God “FASHIONATELY!”

That is what Dress to Bless is all about.

While young ladies their age would think of night outs, weekend getaways and leisure activities that youngsters are more inclined to do these days, Nowie Serrano, Mickee Lat and Jem Wooden ventured into a fashion business without losing sight of their passion – that is spreading the love of God.

Started on February 2012 when Nowie saw the shirt designs in an online shop, texted the number, met the designer, discussed the idea with Jem and Mickee, and voila! Dress to Bless was born!

The silly catch on the McDonald’s free coffee promo

There just have to be some catch! And in the case of the McDonald’s free coffee promo, it’s the silly rule that only one coupon is allowed per customer.

Why silly?

Picture this. The McDonald’s crew went to your office and gave away coupons to all employees so they can avail of the free coffee promo – NO PURCHASE NECESSARY!

Neat isn’t it? NOT!

Because the next morning, most staff would give their coupons to the messenger so he can redeem their free coffee, only to come back with just one coffee on hand because he was told that only one coupon is allowed per customer!

So, they expect all the people from the office to troop down to their store, fall in line, just to redeem their free coffee?

Spamming is not marketing

SPAMMING IS NOT MARKETING!

It is not even bad or unethical marketing. It is just NOT marketing! Period.

No! I am not talking about spam bots, I am referring to pseudo-entrepreneurs who think that they are being clever when they post their product spiels anywhere.

And these spammers are everywhere – from online forums, in your emails, social media, and even in your mobile phone! You’ll wonder how they got your number when you received a text message offering a vacation house somewhere at the south.

Who’s afraid of PLDT?

Who’s afraid of PLDT?

The impending acquisition of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) of Digitel Telecommunications Philippines Inc. have raised concerns on some sectors particularly from one its rival in the telecommunications industry, Globe Telecom Inc. who even asked the government to take a look into the PLDT-Digitel deal.

Globe’s concern is not without merit, as PLDT will be getting 51.55% of Digitel, after which, it would undertake a mandatory offer to minority investors, for a total consideration of P74.1 billion. A deal that would put PLDT in full control of Digitel, and perhaps, as everybody feared, the telecommunications industry in general.

Does an expired ID Card also expires your identity?

When I was still with a bank, one of the policies that I frowned about is the non-acceptance of an expired ID card. I find it rather absurd and outright ridiculous that I can’t accommodate check encashments nor new accounts opening because ID’s presented to me by clients were expired.

Oftentimes, I find myself too at the other end of the deal. The more it looked annoying to me. Imagined being refused accommodation because of an expired ID! Not only it is embarrassing to be denied, but such rule is definitely and absolutely insane!

I hope Globe will bring back ImmortalTxt

Ever since the days of missing Globe load, I rarely load my cellphone for fear that they may just “disappear.” Although there were reports that this bug has been fixed, I still do not maintain load credits on my cellular phone.

I tried registering to the Globe unlimited texting feature which is the UNLITXT20 just to save my credits from “load bandit.” However, since I rarely send text messages and I do not really receive text messages, the 24 hours would pass with me not consuming the entire P20 load actually. It was still a waste of money.

That is why I was glad when the ImmortalTxt service was launched.

While it was limited to 50 text messages, it has no expiration date and thus I am not pressured to make send messages just to make the credit worthwhile. Plus, I still have 10 extra load for sending to other networks.

Unfortunately, this service is no longer available. It ended last February 28, if I’m not mistaken.

I really wish this service would be back soon, as it is thus far the only Globe product that I can really appreciate.

“Paying for insurance is voluntary”

Last Saturday, after attending iBlog5, my friend Zorlone was kind enough to drop me off in Monumento so I can conveniently ride the bus at the Victory Liner terminal.

As I went towards the cashier to get my ticket, I noticed a sign on the cashier’s window which says something like “paying for insurance is voluntary” and I remembered that Victory Liner charge their passengers for insurance when you pay for your fare at the terminal.

Since I haven’t been travelling for quite a long time, I asked the cashier how much is the fare up to Dau, where I would get off (the bus I’m riding will be going to Dagupan), to which she answered P122.00, so I gave her P125.

She gave me my P3 change and two tickets… wait! Two tickets?!

Globe’s scheming ways

I could have been P100,000 richer, that is what I was told by the text message I recieved from Globe. The message said I could be the winner of the P100,000 prize for the week, but I still need to text their number – 2346

Now, anyone who knows Globe’s scheming ways knows that once you texted 2346, you will activate a subscription from anything that they are offering, and from then on you’ll be receiving text alerts wherein you will be charged P2.50 each!

LPG and an inconsistent Accounting system

February 15, 2009 by Roy · 4 Comments

As an accountant, I know that one of the principles in any accounting system is consistency. But why is it that LPG (liquified petroleum gas) dealers does not have any consistency in their accounting system?

Or at least, most of them.

I am referring to their inventory system.

By practice, most companies used the FIFO inventory system. FIFO means first-in, first-out. This is most specially true for perishable items, to ensure that stocks and inventory are always fresh and in good condition.

Aside from the physical movement of the merchandise, it also refers to the valuation of the inventory.
