The silly catch on the McDonald’s free coffee promo
Filed under: Articles, business, contest and promos, customer service, management, Marketing, roysville
There just have to be some catch! And in the case of the McDonald’s free coffee promo, it’s the silly rule that only one coupon is allowed per customer.
Picture this. The McDonald’s crew went to your office and gave away coupons to all employees so they can avail of the free coffee promo – NO PURCHASE NECESSARY!
Neat isn’t it? NOT!
Because the next morning, most staff would give their coupons to the messenger so he can redeem their free coffee, only to come back with just one coffee on hand because he was told that only one coupon is allowed per customer!
So, they expect all the people from the office to troop down to their store, fall in line, just to redeem their free coffee?

Spamming is not marketing
Filed under: Articles, business, customer service, entrepreneur, Entrepreneurship, management, Marketing
It is not even bad or unethical marketing. It is just NOT marketing! Period.
No! I am not talking about spam bots, I am referring to pseudo-entrepreneurs who think that they are being clever when they post their product spiels anywhere.
And these spammers are everywhere – from online forums, in your emails, social media, and even in your mobile phone! You’ll wonder how they got your number when you received a text message offering a vacation house somewhere at the south.

Who’s afraid of PLDT?

The impending acquisition of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) of Digitel Telecommunications Philippines Inc. have raised concerns on some sectors particularly from one its rival in the telecommunications industry, Globe Telecom Inc. who even asked the government to take a look into the PLDT-Digitel deal.
Globe’s concern is not without merit, as PLDT will be getting 51.55% of Digitel, after which, it would undertake a mandatory offer to minority investors, for a total consideration of P74.1 billion. A deal that would put PLDT in full control of Digitel, and perhaps, as everybody feared, the telecommunications industry in general.

Business failure… reasons
Filed under: entrepreneur, Entrepreneurship, management, roysville, self-help
Here I am writing what I believe were some of the reasons why I failed in my businesses before. I am writing them here for two reasons. Primarily, for me to serve as a reminder so that I may not repeat the same mistakes, and second, for those who may read this may learn too from my experiences, and thus save them costly errors in their own business.
Reasons for failing in business :
A medley of knowledge
I would like to think of myself as a talented person. I know how to do a lot of things.
But apparently, “Jack of all trades – master of none” didn’t work for me. In fact, it could probably be one of the main reasons I failed. I know a lot of things, yet I wasn’t able to develop anything into a full grown opportunity.

I hope Globe will bring back ImmortalTxt
Filed under: business, customer service, feedback & reviews, hope, management, mobile technology
Ever since the days of missing Globe load, I rarely load my cellphone for fear that they may just “disappear.” Although there were reports that this bug has been fixed, I still do not maintain load credits on my cellular phone.
I tried registering to the Globe unlimited texting feature which is the UNLITXT20 just to save my credits from “load bandit.” However, since I rarely send text messages and I do not really receive text messages, the 24 hours would pass with me not consuming the entire P20 load actually. It was still a waste of money.
That is why I was glad when the ImmortalTxt service was launched.
While it was limited to 50 text messages, it has no expiration date and thus I am not pressured to make send messages just to make the credit worthwhile. Plus, I still have 10 extra load for sending to other networks.
Unfortunately, this service is no longer available. It ended last February 28, if I’m not mistaken.
I really wish this service would be back soon, as it is thus far the only Globe product that I can really appreciate.
How do you put out a fire?
How do you put out a fire? By dousing it with water! That’s right; to kill a fire you simply douse it with water.
Now, how do you kill enthusiasm? Simple, by dousing it with water!
Now why and how, you may ask, pour water on enthusiasm? I’m not really referring to physical water here, of course you know that.
I used the analogy because enthusiasm is like a fire burning within an individual. People doused it with water by simply saying NO! STOP! THAT CAN’T BE DONE!
This is one of the most common management mistakes. Sometimes, an individual comes along with a new or an improved idea. Enthusiastically, he shares to the bosses, very confident that this idea would improve performance, cut costs, lead to better sales or really create big changes within the organization.

How do you keep happy employees?
Filed under: All in a day's work, Articles, Career, Entrepreneurship, management
Would you believe that an effective way to keep your people happy is by firing away the unhappy ones?
Sounds like a joke? Jay Goltz really hoped it was.
Goltz, who owns five small businesses in Chicago, shared his secret in keeping happy employees in the company in the report from Yahoo! Finance.
Admitting that he doesn’t have a Ph. D., an M.B.A. or any economics degree, Goltz said that he had learned through times that you cannot make everyone happy.

Now I know why they call them do-it-yourself shops
Filed under: customer service, feedback & reviews, management
I’m sure you’ve seen them in the malls, those big, open-shelves type hardware stores where you buy your tools, electrical supplies, and the like as if you’re just buying from a grocery store – you just pick-up the items you need. They were often referred to as do-it-yourself shops for all the handyman in us.
Yesterday, I learned first hand why they called them do-it-yourself shops.
