The Department of Labor and Employment released the different venues of Labor Day Jobs and Livelihood Fairs which will happen simultaneously across the country on May 1.

New graduates, returning OFWs and others who are also seeking employment, please check the list below for the job fair venue near your place.

Holiday pay guidelines

The whole country will observe Holy Week next week. It is a week that only have two working days, which prompts the labor department to remind employers of the holiday pay guidelines.

As stated in the Proclamation 1699, declaring the list of official holidays in the Philippines, Araw ng Kagitingan (April 9) was moved to April 6, the Monday nearest to it.

April 9 and 10, meanwhile, are Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which leave only April 7 and 8 as the official working day for the day.

SSS set P500-million emergency loan fund for displaced members

The Social Security System (SSS) has set aside an emergency loan fund of P500-million for the displaced workers of private companies who have closed down due to the effect of the recession.

SSS president and chief executive officer Romulo Neri said that the agency has already opened the emergency loan window and displaced workers can now for a loan of up to P15,000 from the emergency fund.

However, only those who lost their jobs from January 1, 2009 are qualified for the emergency loan.
